USFS 1919
I thought that this story was really amazing. I love to read stories that were written earlier in time, because it is interesting how time changes and how the world evolves. The Forest Service has changed dramatically since 1919. Norman Maclean did a great job capturing me from the beginning. His writing is profound and full of great detail. The places that he described put me in his shoes. Any writer that can do that has a great talent. The way he described all the different settings made this story worth reading. He does a fantastic job laying out the scene that is about to take place. I felt like I was right there next to him. His writing also captured me when I read about Bill. In the beginnning, Bill had the stereotype of being the guy that all men wanted to be and all women wanted to be with. He had a great reputation and I could fully understand this by the way the narrarator described him. He was intimidating, proud and to me, over estimated. At some points, the story did get a little boring. It was hard for me to read in some parts because he wrote about the same things often. I never quit reading though, because I knew that there would be a great piece of description coming on the next page, if not the next. When the story got boring I would find myself amazed with the next paragraph of perfect description. That is what made the story worth reading, that is what kept me reading.
